AI agent

An AI agent is software that uses an AI model to pursue a goal by planning steps and taking actions, such as creating a task or drafting a document, rather than only answering questions.

How is an AI agent different from a chatbot?

A chatbot answers. An AI agent acts: it breaks a request into steps, uses tools or systems to carry them out, and reports back. For example, asked to “follow up on today’s meeting”, an AI agent can create tasks for each owner instead of only listing them.

What does an AI agent need to work well in a company?

An AI agent needs three things: reliable context about the company, such as a knowledge graph; access to the systems where work happens; and clear limits on what it may do, for whom and with whose approval.

What are the risks of AI agents?

The main risks are acting on wrong or incomplete information and acting beyond what was intended. Good practice is to ground agents in connected company knowledge, show where facts came from, and configure permissions per organization, unit and person.
